IT took two brothers and a bit of curiosity to get Bonnyrigg's Lorenzo Toohey, 13, to play rugby league.
Less than a year later, the Canley Vale Kookas division one player was scoring five tries per game.
And eight years later her achieved his short term goal - being selected to go to the Parramatta District under-14 Summer
coaching school.
"It was the first time I tried out for the team and I didn't think I'd get selected," he said. "It was really cool, I tried
out again tghis year and I was selected to play for the under-15 development squad.
The Prairiewood High School year 9 student, this week's Fairfield Advance Junior Sports Star Award nominee, has played
in four grand finals.
He has won two and lost two and said the experience was invaluable.
"In 2005, 2006 and 2007, I was the captain of my team and when we won the grand finals it was so good. Everyone was so excited,
" he said.
"I really enjoy being the captain because I like controlling the players and motivating the before we play a game."
The half-back was recently selected to be the ball boy for this year's Harold Matthews Cup and under-18s S.G. Ball.
He said some of his duties included throwing the football back onto the field whenever it was kicked out.
"I also took the kicking tee out onto the field before a players kicked a goal," he said.
"It was an awesome experience.
Our Junior Sports Star of the year receives a medal and $1000, and they young Achiever will receive a medal and $500.
Nominations are open to sportspeople aged between 10 amd 16 at the time of nomination who live in the local area.
